A peek behind the curtain of Pachamama… Todd Carroll, photographer, talks about creating the music landscape!
” A good cook takes the primary ingredient, chicken perhaps, and adds herbs & spices, then cooks it to bring out an essential (perhaps surprising or subtle) element. My approach to designing the music for Pachamama is in this vein.
Using the original recordings of the chants of Lola Kiepja, the last surviving shaman of the Selk’nam, I added sounds from the natural world as well as from other composers and artists to create an atmosphere for the dance. Selections from Moondog, Kronos Quartet, Mum and Dawn of Midi pepper the theatrical presentation. The result is a spicy salsa, simmering just below the boiling point.” Todd Carroll
